Overcoming Blocks & Procrastination

It’s almost the end of the year, how are your 2017 goals looking?

Do you have any that feel stuck, where you can’t quite find your way towards it and you’d really like to push through before the end of the year?

This session will focus on developing your strategies for pushing through the blocks and procrastination that are getting in the way of your pathway forward.

We’ll look at:

 • understanding whether our blocks are external or internal,

 • increasing our sense of control over tackling them, and

 • identifying real strategies that can move us around, past or straight through those blocks.

Join Amy Jackson for this interactive, practical one hour session, with additional coaching afterwards for CBA members.

(Amy recommends that to get the most out of this session, you have thought about your goals and current blocks or challenges that are slowing you down, prior to attending the session.)

For CBA members, Amy will be available for additional support until 1pm.

About the Conduit Program

For details of how and why the program was put together, you can read more here.

The simple explanation is that I wanted to find a way to help sole traders and small businesses find a cost-effective way to access services and networks to help them improve their businesses.

People often ask why I do what I do – I have worked in Customer Service and Leadership positions for many (many..) years, but wanted to find a way to use the skills, strengths and experience I have to help small businesses and individuals, specifically within the beautiful and welcoming Brisbane Bayside community that I have chosen to live in, and bring up my family. I didn’t want to have a city commute any more, and I saw a way to work in my community, providing a service that I saw was of benefit to many, and where I could utilise my skills.

The workshops have been tailored to suit the gaps that I have seen in the business community – helping people have confidence in their amazing abilities – to understand their strengths, to know when to ask for help to get through the maze of small business pitfalls, to rise to the challenges, and ultimately, to succeed, and help build a better economy in our community.
Work smarter, not harder!

Chris Shana

Central Business Associates is delighted to welcome back Chris Shana , with more Mini Mindfulness sessions.

Starting Monday 9th May (after the May Public Holiday on 2nd), for four weeks, Chris will be helping us learn how to ‘Start the Week with Clarity’. As business owners, we often forget to look after our own well-being, and having focus at the start of your week can set the tone, pace and success for the days ahead.

Previous attendees of the workshops had this to say;

“Everything was great – time, session length, presenter & venue”

“Loved it”

(I enjoyed) “learning how to start the week with clarity”

Come and join us each Monday morning (9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th May 2016), and learn some wonderful techniques to help shake off those Monday Morning Blues and blast into your week with clarity and purpose! (oh, and the view from the Boardroom helps too….). To book, follow this link, and follow the instructions – limited seats available…

Mindfulness – start your working week with clarity and intention!

Extensive scientific research provides strong evidence that practicing non-judgmental, present-moment awareness (a.k.a. mindfulness) changes the brain, and it does so in ways that anyone working in today’s complex business environment, and certainly every leader, should know about. (excerpt from a Harvard Business Review article)

Beautiful setting, with a clear business focus – what better way to start your week?

Chris Shana will be holding these 45 minute mindfulness sessions each Monday starting 1st Feb 2016.

As Chris explains on her website, “Meditation was once the domain of yogi’s, hippies, gurus and woo woos, but today its benefits are sprouted by many, including big business, entrepreneurs, sports men and women and entertainers. Meditation has become so mainstream that even doctors are now recommending it.
You see, during meditation, the brain enters into a state that is known to increase inner peace, emotional stability, memory, intuition and physical healing as well as aiding in restful sleep and releasing beneficial hormones.
Not only that, it can help reduce mental fatigue, anxiety, stress and mind chatter.
So many times I have heard “I just don’t have time to meditate” and the truth is, we don’t have time not to. By getting up, just 30 minutes earlier, spending 20 minutes of that time in meditation (which equates to 2 hours sleep), you will begin to feel more energized, more focused, more creative, more patient and kind and much more rested than if you had just stayed in bed for that extra 30 minutes…”

Q. What’s the difference between Mindfulness and Meditation?

A. Mindfulness is really a type of basic meditation.  ‘Meditation’ comes from an ancient monastic tradition based on withdrawal from the world. ‘Mindfulness’ on the other hand is related to psychology, education, scientific research, rational thought and our everyday language. Its values are not at all monastic so it integrates much better into our rich and complex lives.

Mindfulness also has far more potential. We have to sit still to meditate, but we can be mindful in any daily activity. Meditation takes time, but we can and typically do become mindful in an instant when we need to. Meditation focuses inwardly on the body but mindfulness has a more expansive field of operation. It also relates to our actions, thoughts, emotions and states of mind.

I am delighted to announce that Amy Jackson, one of our Members and Part-time tenants, is going to be running our first series of short lunchtime workshops, designed specifically for our small business community. Looking forward to hosting (and participating!) in these, and seeing the results in my business.

The importance of building good foundations for our business is substantial, and can be the difference between our business failing and our business thriving. I plan to bring workshops to the business centre that I feel will help us all to put these foundations in place, and would welcome any suggestions from our business community on the subjects you would like to see covered in the future, and I will do my utmost to find good presenters to help us all learn together.

Tickets for these initial workshops can be purchased NOW via the link to Eventbrite.

Central Business Associates members are entitled to a significant discount – see Eventbrite link for details during booking process, but anyone can attend these workshops.
